The Process

Customer Preparation
  1. Start by identifying the type of home:
    • Bungalow
    • 2 storey
    • Bi-level

  2. Identify the style of the building:
    • Tudor
    • Mediterannean
    • Victorian
    • etc.

  3. Define your wish list. This would include factors such as:
    • minimum or maximum square footage
    • maximum allowable width and depth of home as reflected by the building site
    • number of bedrooms and desired sizes
    • number of bathrooms
    • number of stalls in garage (if applicable)
    • any basement development
    • any architectural controls as governed by subdivision
    • specified or preferred locations of certain areas such as eating area and how it relates to the morning sun, etc.

  4. While meeting with the client, we will get a read on a type of life style they lead. This is important for the design process.
Designer
  1. After the original meeting, in which the "wish list" is gone over extensively, to ensure all of the clients needs can be met. We prepare a preliminary sketch. This consists of:

    • a floor plan - or floor plans depending on the type of house
    • a front view (also refered to as elevations) drawn to scale.

  2. The preliminary sketches are presented to the client for their review.

  3. Changes are made to the plans based upon the client's request.

    • Either a second preliminary sketch or the final construction drawings are generated.

  4. The final drawings are presented to the client for their review.

  5. Any minor changes are made and final blue-prints are released to client for Contractor pricing and tendering offers.
